The Warehouse
Over the weekend Pure Adapt moved into a warehouse. The physical labor is finally done with now. We’ve put three days of physical labor moving into our warehouse. This was definitely exciting to be moving into our own place, we now have a central location and we have a great place. Let me take you through our move from day one.
Day 1 – February 22, 2008
The first day consisted mostly of packing up Detailed Image and prepping for the move into the warehouse. We starting packing up products and furniture from 11:00am – 7:00pm. I have to say everything went pretty smoothly.
Day 2 – February 23, 2008
This day started early at around 7:00am we went to pick up the our Penske moving truck. Greg is having blast driving the truck.

Packing up the truck at Greg’s house.
The entrance to the Industrial Park.
The warehouse before we bring everything in…
All products unloaded…
What it looked like at the end of Day 2…
Day 3 – February 24, 2008
We got a lot done in the previous two days with only the four of us doing the moving. This day was mostly cleaning up the place and getting things organized. We went to BJ’s Wholesale Club before we went to the warehouse to pick up on supplies like paper towels, toilet paper, all that good stuff. Greg and George worked on getting all the products on the shelves and me and Adam worked on getting our wireless network up and running. The Sprint Broadband Card and Linksys Router worked great and wasn’t hard to set up at all, which I previously posted about in A Unique Solution. Again I have to say everything went smoothly. Here are some of the pictures of the final set up for that day.
That’s it, the Pure Adapt warehouse. We have lots of space to grow into and I think we have a great set up. We’ve been in there for about five days and fully functional since yesterday. It’s pretty sweet having everyone working in one location. One freaking complaint I have is that the space next to us started painting and they are definitely not venting it out and it’s all coming into our warehouse space. So yesterday and today we’ve probably lost many brain cells working in the warehouse. Other than the paint fumes it’s been great so far.

My Monthly Charity
I’m starting a new monthly routine. Every month I’m going to pick a charity to write about and donate to. I guess I can say I started this with the Ronald McDonald House of Albany when I wrote about it in A True Selfless Act and made a donation to the radiothon that was going on. I actually just recently received a thank you letter from them yesterday.
The charity that I will be donating to is the American Heart Association – Middletown, NY. My good friend Priscila raising money for the American Heart Association and participating in a Heart Walk in Middleton, NY which makes this the perfect choice for this months charity.

Mission of the American Heart Association
The American Heart Association is a national voluntary health agency whose mission is:
“Building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.”
With heart disease and stroke as the number 1 and 3 killers in our nation the American Heart Association is out there to help fight against cardiovascular problems. There’s lots of valuable information on the American Heart Association website to educate everyone on living a healthy lifestyle, warnings of heart attack or stroke and much more.
Help the fight against heart disease by helping my friend reach her goal on her donation page or go directly to the American Heart Association.

Big Things are Happening
In the past few weeks there’s been a lot of things going with Pure Adapt. We are about to take the next major step as a company. I have to say I’m ecstatic about everything happening.
First we will be moving into our warehouse. Our warehouse that is over 5000 square feet and located in Guilderland, NY. Pure Adapt now has an official location. This is a major stepping stone for us and we have lots of room to expand as we grow the company. George did a great job finding this place for a fantastic price per square foot.
TastefullyDriven.com launch is coming soon. We’ve been working our asses on development and planning it for launch on April 1, 2008. We still have lots to do, but the majority of the design and development is completed. At the same time our to do list grows, because the site is so big we find more things that need attention before launch. More recently our main task was picking our product lines and finding suppliers. Personally I have to say working on picking the product line has been pretty exciting. The product search has been gone pretty well and we’ve heard back from many of the major vendors that we wanted to work with. There was only one category of products that we struggled with. I’m also very excited about the big plans we have for a pre-launch of TastefullyDriven.com to hype it up for 4.1.08 launch date. One thing we already started is our contest for $100 gift certificate. You can sign up for updates and a chance to win a $100 gift certificate now at Tastefully Driven.com.
With all these things going on, everyone in the company is making sacrifices to take our company to the next level. Everyone is working hard and taking a temporary pay cut so we can reinvest that money back into the company. We all agreed on this decision and it going save us lots of money. We’re not only saving the money from the pay cut, it saves us money on our taxes and payroll fees.
Client work is close to being finished, Pure Adapt is on a roll, Detailed Image continues it’s growth and Tastefully Driven is coming soon, how can I not be excited. Let me reiterate big things are happening.

A Unique Solution
There’s been a lot going on this week and problems always need solutions. We’re web development/e-commerce company and obviously we need internet access. We just signed the lease to our warehouse and plan on moving in about a week. George has been on top things taking care most things associated with the warehouse and one thing was the internet. Working with Time Warner Cable we found out it would cost us $4,000 and run a cable to our warehouse space.
Are you kidding me, we already knew it was going to be $200 month for business class and now an additional $4000 to run the cable to our space. They did offer a contract for five years at $300 a month to cover of the service and installation, but there’s no way we’re going to pay that. To top it off, business class is way more expensive than home service for roughly the same speeds.
No Internet access is major problem, our company can’t function without it. The solution we came up with was to use a mobile broadband card with a compatible router. With a little research we’re this solution existed and we found it, because it would’ve cost us a lot of money going with Time Warner. This is the wireless card and router combo we found.

What does this solution mean? It means we save a butte load of money. Our monthly cost has gone down to $60 a month and we got the router for free after rebate. Read more about this from Adam’s Blog.
The more I think of this solution, it may also be a my future solution for Internet access as well. It’s a multitasker, you can use it with your router and use it for your laptop when you’re out and about.

Just thought this was cool and wanted to share it on my blog. It’s Photo2Text.com a website that converts an image to text. Take an image, upload it and it’ll draw out the image using text.

No More Client Work

Not quite yet, but almost there. Adam and George have already posted and expressed their thoughts about our move away from client work. As of March 1st, 2008 Pure Adapt will be out of the web development for client business.
This decision to close our client side business down is definitely a relief for Adam and I. For Adam I know the constant client management with emails, constant contact has become a hassle and just isn’t worth it . Now I won’t be the servant to clients ever changing thought about what they want with their design, when they really don’t know what they want. Web design and development is very tough for that very sole reason, that people don’t exactly know what they want.
The client side of our business was a vital part of our business which started Pure Adapt, but at this point it just isn’t worth it. Client work just started to take up way too much time for what we were getting paid for. One thing we neglected to factor in was we were charging projects as if one of us was working on it. Almost all the projects should have been at least double, since there was the development time and client management time. I still believe in the business of web development, but I’m done with it. Adam recently posted detailed outline on how to do client work, that I totally agree with, called “How To Do Client Work Right“.
On the plus side of client work is that I’ve learned numerous things from it. It’s propelled my skills as web developer and designer to where I am today. I’ve put in all sorts of hours into client work including nights, holidays and weekends for our clients. It was all worth it because it’s made me a leaner and meaner designer/developer. Almost every client that I worked on had a unique problem that I needed to learn something new to solve it.
With client work done, we will be focusing on our own sites for the future of Pure Adapt. Detailed Image has proven to be successful in e-commerce in auto detailing products with the most recent major upgrade to the site last year. With the cumulative experience of the four of us we hope to replicate the success in our next major venture Tastefully Driven, it’s going to be “The Contemporary Shopping Lifestyle”.
