Lovely Avery Valentines Newsletter

Filed in: Email Marketing

Avery’s recent social network campaign wittingly used the Facebook Like feature in conjunction with Valentines Day. The Facebook Like feature fits in perfectly with the Valentines Day theme. Valentines day works great for a social network campaign with the Facebook Like feature if you’re not pushing a sale orientated campaign. I’m surprised I haven’t seen more emails featuring the Facebook Like feature during this time of year or maybe I’ve been oblivious to it. This was a very well designed and themed newsletter by Avery that I wanted to give props to. Now I have to come up a Valentines newsletter myself for good ol’ Detailed Image.

Alaska Wilderness League

There are back to back snow storms on their way to the Northeast and that got me thinking about SNOW, SNOW, and more SNOW which led me to pick an organization helping preserve the United State’s only Arctic state of Alaska’s wilderness. Let me introduce you to the Alaska Wilderness League preserving the vast wilderness in Alaska.

The League exists to lead the effort to preserve Alaska’s wilderness by engaging citizens, sharing resources, collaborating with other organizations, educating the public, and providing a courageous, constant and victorious voice for Alaska in the nation’s capital. – Alaska Wilderness League Mission http://www.alaskawild.org/about-us/

The Alaska Wilderness League works from the federal level in Washington D.C. to fight against industries depleting the resources of the Alaskan land. The Alaskan lands offer diverse wildlife habitats and ecosystems like no other and making it a priority is all the more important.

Learn how you can help preserve Alaska for future generations to enjoy at http://www.alaskawild.org/.

My Monthly Charities 2010

Filed in: Charity,My Monthly Charity

2011 is well on it’s way and my first monthly charity will be coming very soon, but before I post that I wanted to recap My Monthly Charities from 2010.

January
American Red Cross – I’ve featured the American Red Cross multiple times since the start of my blog and when disaster strikes the Red Cross is there to help.

February
Save the Children – Another organization dedicated to disaster relief with a focus on the children.

March
Various Charities Associated with Current Events – In March I featured multiple charities including The World Wildlife Fund, South Colonie Dollar for Scholars, Red Cross and Save the Children.

April
The Conservation Fund – In honor of Earth Day, The Conservation Fund is America’s partner in conservation, preserving land and water across our 50 states.

May
Various charities in honor of Memorial Day – Support our troops all the time and not just on Memorial Day.

June
Gulf Oil Spill Charities – The Gulf Oil Spill was a major disaster that will be affecting us for years to come, but with the help of these many charitable organizations we’ve come a long way.

July
Oceana – In the midst of the Gulf Oil Spill, Oceana is an organization fighting to keep disasters like that from ever happening preserving our precious oceans.

August
International Rescue Committee (IRC) – Massive floods devasted Pakistan and the IRC was there aiding those in crisis.

September
Kids Flicks – It’s amazing what a group of young kids can do. Since 2002 the Barta sisters have been collecting old DVDs to donate to hospitals for kids to watch.

October
Susan G. Komen for the Cure – Komen for the Cure was everywhere last October when the NFL dedicated that entire month to breast cancer sporting everything from the pink ribbon to pink cleats.

November
Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York – The holidays are a time for giving and the food bank works hard to feed the hungry.

December
Share Our Strength organization’s No Kid Hungry – Children go hungry every day and No Kid Hungry looks to end that by 2015 in America.

Those are all the charities I posted about in 2010 and My Monthly Charity will continue with the hopes that it helps these charities make this world a better place even if it’s just a little bit.

Air Force One in Albany

Filed in: General & Mindless Chatter,Green,Photos,Politics,Tech

Quick post about President Obama’s trip to Schenectady, NY.  I was ready to head out to the gym when President Obama had arrived at the General Electric (GE) Plant in Schenectady, NY and I decided to watch him speak before I left. The speech wasn’t long, running about 17 minutes praising GE’s green technology and international exports as a “model for America”. I believe that green technology is a very important part of America’s future success and seeing Obama come to smaller city like Schenectady, NY and last year’s visit to Hudson Valley Community College shows his understanding that innovation, technology and education are of the utmost importance.

Now to my story of Obama’s visit. After watching President Obama speak I left for the gym when I was detoured to go past Albany International Airport and found myself stuck in traffic and to my surprise a glimpse of Air Force One. I didn’t make the connection until a little later but the traffic stoppage and detours were probably because President Obama was en route to the airport.  It took me 45 minutes to get to the my gym which is only about 5 minutes away. The times work out and I’m pretty sure when traffic was stopped near the airport that there was a good chance that the President himself  was arriving at Albany International. It was totally by coincident but I got to see Air Force One. This is one of the few times I really wanted to use my phone for a picture and it did not want to cooperate but I was able to get one good picture of Air Force One at Albany International Airport.
